Floor Maintenance

TIMBER FLOOR
CARE INSTRUCTIONS

Floor Coatings Drying & Curing

Floor coatings typically dry within 24–48 hours but require 7–14 days to fully cure. To protect the finish during this period:

Light foot traffic in socks is generally acceptable after 24 hours (or as advised by your tradesperson), while street shoes should be avoided for at least 7 days. Although most curing occurs within the first 24 hours, extra care is essential during the initial two weeks.

Light furniture may be returned during this time, provided protective felt pads are used and items are not dragged. Heavier appliances should be moved carefully without sliding. Rugs should not be placed on the floor until at least two weeks after completion.

General Information for All Finishes

Use Mats

Shoes carry sand, grit and small stones which will abrade the floor surface in the same way that sandpaper does. Place mats at entrances and where possible place a mat on the inside as well as outside. Use runners and rugs in high traffic areas.

Direct Sunlight & Maintenance

Prolonged exposure to direct sunlight can cause fading and discolouration over time. To help preserve the floor's appearance, it is recommended to filter sunlight with curtains or blinds.

Establishing a regular maintenance program is essential to keep your floor looking its best. The frequency of cleaning will depend on factors such as foot traffic, dirt and grit, pets, children, and external conditions.

For routine care, use an anti-static dust mop daily or weekly to remove dust and debris. Vacuum cleaners are generally not recommended, as worn brush heads can scratch the floor surface.

Periodic Recoating

Regular maintenance will extend the life of your hardwood floor for many years. Recoating should be carried out when the existing finish begins to show signs of wear, but before it deteriorates to bare timber. Once exposed, the wood can absorb dirt and stains, requiring full sanding to restore the surface.
