About Solid Hardwood
Solid tongue and groove hardwood flooring remains a timeless choice, valued for its durability and distinctive natural character. Its versatility ensures it continues to complement both modern and traditional interiors.
Kiln-dried hardwood tongue and groove flooring has been widely used across Australia for over a century. Renowned for its structural integrity, it can be installed over joists, concrete, plywood, battens, and other subfloors. Available in secret-nail or top-nail profiles, it offers a broad selection of colours, price points, and board widths to suit a variety of design preferences.
While the overall colour of timber is influenced by the species, natural variation is inherent in all timber products. No sample can fully represent the final result, and each floor will be uniquely its own. The true character and colour of the timber emerge after sanding and the application of the selected finish. Over time, lighter timbers in particular develop warmer "honey" tones as they mature.
Timber Grades
The grade of timber determines the level of natural feature present — knots, insect markings, and other variations that contribute to the floor's unique character. Most timbers are available in three grades:
Contemporary
also known as Select / Low FeatureMinimal natural features, delivering a clean, refined, and minimalist appearance. Often considered a premium option due to demand for a more uniform look.
Colonial
also known as Medium FeatureA mix of boards with a moderate level of natural features, resulting in a balanced look that combines a relatively clean finish with added character and visual interest.
Natural Feature
also known as Rustic / High FeatureTimber with a higher concentration of natural features. Well suited to those seeking a rustic, aged, or organic aesthetic — rich in character and visual variation.
