Why restoring the timber floor you already have is the most sustainable choice, and how the products we use keep that promise.
Restore, don’t replace
The greenest floor is the one you already have
Tearing out a sound timber floor to install something new, whether new timber, laminate, vinyl or carpet, uses fresh raw materials and energy, creates waste and sends the old floor to landfill. Sanding and recoating the floor you already have avoids all of that.
Solid hardwood is made for restoration. Because the timber runs the full thickness of the board, it can be sanded back and refinished several times over its life, often over many decades. What looks tired, scratched or dated is usually just a worn finish. The timber underneath is still sound.
No new materials
Restoring uses what’s already underfoot. No new timber, adhesives or underlay need to be made.
Nothing to landfill
The only by-product is fine sawdust, captured by our dust extraction. No boards or packaging are thrown away.
Carbon kept stored
Reusing the existing timber keeps its stored carbon locked away for decades more.
The products we use
Low-VOC, water-based finishes
We choose finishes, sealers and coatings for both performance and environmental responsibility. Water-based polyurethanes from brands like Bona, Loba and Polycure give durable, long-lasting protection with far less solvent and odour, which means healthier air in your home.
Where a traditional oil or stain is the right choice, we use respected products from Cabot’s, Feast Watson, Intergrain and Porter’s, applied carefully to minimise waste.
